Autumn is HERE! 3 Ways to Change with the Season
Autumn is here and it’s a time of change. Whether you’re in a part of the country that’s sunny and warm year-round or a place where you experience the beautiful leaf colors that Autumn brings, change is in the air.
The idea of “Spring Cleaning” doesn’t have to be just for Spring! Use this opportunity of changing seasons to re-organize and get prepared for winter. Here are three ways to do just that:
1. Clean out your closets.
…and your drawers, and anywhere else you may have old items lurking around. Donate any clothes that you haven’t worn in a year. Change out the summer clothes to prepare for the weather change. Consider having a “clothing swap” where friends and neighbors can get together and find “new” items while getting rid of the ones they don’t want or need anymore.
2. Get your priorities set.
A change in season is the perfect time to re-evaluate your priorities. Has there been something on your mental to-do list that still isn’t done? Write down your goals. What things have to get done and what things do you simply want to get done? Use this time to plan how you will spend your time and evaluate what things may not be as important as you once thought they were.
3. Go outside!
Now is the time for “Fall clean up” in your yard. Stay on top of that yard work so you don’t have extra to do next Spring. Keep your driveway and curbs clear of leaves and other fallen debris. Enjoy the weather! If you’ll be expecting a snowy winter, now’s the time to get the last minute “outdoor time” before the cold sets in.
Remember to say thank you to your garbage workers who will be picking up all that yard waste and house waste from your cleaning efforts.
From all of us at National Garbage Man Day, have a great Autumn!

Arwood Waste Asks For Your Support of Hurricane Irma Disaster Relief | Donate to OneBlood, Blood Assurance, Florida Disaster Fund, American Red Cross
Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone impacted by Hurricane Irma in Florida, the Caribbean and the Southeast United States. The devastating storm surge and wind damage in Naples, Miami, Jacksonville, Fort Myers, Tampa and all throughout the large path of this devastating storm has left thousands of people without homes, evacuated or in emergency shelters and even more with severe damage.
Many organizations are already in the area working hard to save lives and help residents recover from this devastating storm. At Arwood Waste, we would like to encourage everyone to do what they can to support these efforts.
Because needs can change over time and there will be a long road to recovery for those affected, cash donations are almost always preferred over material goods. This allows local organizations to assess needs and respond appropriately in real time. Blood supplies also run low with increased medical needs in disaster affected areas. Here are some of the organizations involved in this recovery and how you can donate directly to support their efforts.
Florida Disaster Fund
The Florida Disaster Fund is the State of Florida’s official private fund established to assist Florida’s communities as they respond to and recover during times of emergency or disaster. 100% of funds raised will go toward disaster-related response and recovery; there are no overhead costs. Donations to the Florida Disaster Fund are made to the Volunteer Florida Foundation, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and are tax deductible.
The Florida Disaster Fund distributes funds to service organizations that will serve individuals within their communities with disaster response and recovery. To donate visit https://www.volunteerflorida.org/emergency-management/#fdf or Text the word DISASTER to 20222 for a one-time donation of $10.
OneBlood and Blood Assurance
Blood collection agencies around the country are working to meet emergency blood supply needs. Eligible donors across America are encouraged to make donation appointments as soon as possible. In the southeast, OneBlood and Blood Assurance are two of the organizations serving communities in the path of Hurricane Irma. You can make an appointment at one of these agencies or contribute to the national blood supply through a donation center in your area.
American Red Cross
American Red Cross provides emergency relief nationwide. You can find the latest Hurricane Irma Response Information from the American Red Cross here http://www.redcross.org/hurricane-irma-response-information or donate to the Red Cross by visiting https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation or calling 1- 800-RED CROSS. You can also find out how to volunteer at this link http://www.redcross.org/volunteer/become-a-volunteer#step1.
However you choose to give, thank you for your donation.
Arwood Waste is not endorsing any of these organizations but we do encourage you to help in whatever way you can. Whether donating to one of these or any other organization, we recommend doing your own research. A great place to start is Charity Navigator.

Arwood Waste Encourages Hurricane Safety and Site Preparations in Anticipation of Irma
As Houston begins to make plans for recovery from Hurricane Harvey, Irma makes landfall in the Caribbean. Our thoughts and prayers are with those in Barbuda, Puerto Rico and all the small islands in the path of this catastrophic storm. With wind speeds of 185 mph, Irma is expected to cause major damage with some areas preparing to be without power for as long as four months.
While there is nothing we can do to influence the path of these storms, we can do our best to prepare for them. In the coming days, it is essential everyone in Irma’s path prepare for the worst, both at home and on the job site.
Secure Materials and Equipment
Hurricanes can easily damage any materials left outside. Loose materials pose the added risk of becoming airborne as projectiles that can break windows and damage property. Minimize your risks and liability and prevent injuries by securing materials now.
Dumpsters
Make sure your construction and roll off dumpsters are tarped and all construction debris is secured so no debris becomes wind borne. Loose materials can become dangerous projectiles, resulting in significant property damage. We offer tarp services to help you secure your dumpsters in preparation for storms.
Portable Toilets and Sanitation Units
Ensure all portable toilets are properly secured and weighted down. You can weight the toilet by carefully placing sandbags inside the unit or you can secure it to another structure, such as a dumpster. If possible, transport portable toilets and other all other sanitation units to a garage to protect them from the storm. If you need assistance securing your portable toilets, we offer services to help secure them to your dumpster. Remember, if your portable toilet or sanitation unit is damaged as a result of the storm you could be liable for damages unless you purchased a Damage Waiver.
Loose Materials
All tools, equipment, materials and debris should be moved indoors. Arwood Waste will continue to offer cleanup and removal services as long as possible to assist you with storm preparations. Anything that cannot be removed or safely stored indoors should be tied down.
Prepare at Home
In addition to protecting your job site and employees, we want to make sure you are prepared at home. Whether you are planning to leave town to get out of the path of the storm or hunker down in place, here are a few steps you can take to protect your family and your home.
Have a First Aid Kit
If you haven’t already prepared a kit of emergency supplies, now is the time to start. If you do have a kit, verify that supplies are not expired and any electronics are in working order and fully charged. In addition to food and water, make sure you have a radio and batteries so you can track the storm and power flashlights. You’ll also want to make sure you have a first aid kit for minor injuries that might occur. If you don’t have one, you can order a first aid kit at Medical Waste 360. For additional information on hurricane kits and supplies, the American Red Cross offers a Hurricane Safety Checklist.
Make a Plan
Don’t wait until the storm is on your doorstep to decide where you’ll go. Roads will become congested and hotels will fill up quickly. If you plan to stay with friends or family, verify that they will be able to accommodate you, your family and any pets. Listen to local officials and evacuate or go to a shelter if evacuation orders are issued for your area. Make sure you know the locations of your local shelters and identify those that can accommodate any special needs, such as pet friendly shelters. You can check online for the location of local shelters and visit the American Red Cross to find open shelters.
Donate Blood
When thinking about hurricane prep, donating blood might not come to mind, but it should. After major weather events and disasters, there is almost always a shortage of blood supply. In Florida, One Blood has already issued a call for immediate donations to meet expected needs from the storm. Getting to a donation center after the storm can be difficult, so before the storm hits, make an appointment and donate today. If you live in a state not directly affected by this storm, please also donate! Your local blood bank will probably be sending blood to help affected areas.
Storm Cleanup
After the storm has passed, recovery work begins. While we hope any damage is minimal, storm recovery and cleanup services may be necessary to get your home and work site back to normal.
Demolition Services
At Arwood Waste, we are prepared to mobilize immediately after the storm has passed. Our demolition and emergency clean up services will be available to help assess and recover in the aftermath of the storm. You can schedule an appointment anytime using our online services or by calling 1-800-477-0854.
Air Scrubbers
After storm water recedes, there is still much work to be done. Even with repairs, moisture and unpleasant odors can linger. Plan ahead and reserve your air scrubber and dry out fans for all livable structures by calling 1-800-477-0854.
Stay Safe
Be sure to stay informed on the latest updates on Hurricane Irma and plan accordingly. You can get the latest updates and public advisories at any time from the National Hurricane Center.
Arwood Waste hopes everyone stays safe as Hurricane Irma passes through the Caribbean Islands, Florida, and the Southeast United States.

Many organizations are already in the area working hard to save lives and help residents recover from this catastrophic storm. At Arwood Waste, we would like to encourage everyone to do what they can to support these efforts.

Protect Your Employees & Customers from Sharps Exposure with Medical Waste 360
Affordable Sharps & Medical Waste Solutions for Restaurants
In restaurants, there is a high risk of needle sticks, cuts, and punctures from needles and other sharps because people are more likely to throw their sharps in the trash. Sharps disposal containers should be provided in restrooms or another designated area clearly visible and accessible to employees and guests. When readily available, sharps disposal containers can decrease risk to employees and customers alike.
Medical Waste 360 provides simple solutions for the safe storage and convenient disposal of used medical sharps for restaurant operators and chains, and multi-location companies. We understand the specific needs of the restaurant industry and how important worry-free used sharps disposal is to the health and safety of your employees and customers.
Learn How To Protect Your Employees and Customers
Medical Waste 360 is here to help you prevent unintentional finger sticks and take the worry out of sharps disposal. Every day more and more Americans are prescribed at home treatments involving the use of lancets, syringes, needles or auto injectors. These devices are often referred to as “Sharps” because of their sharp points or blades used to puncture skin for the purpose of drawing blood or administering medications. This leads to approximately 3 billion used needles and other sharps that must be disposed of outside of health care facilities each year.
